Review

When you think of caller ID spoofing cards, SpoofCard is the brand name often thought of first. They're a generized trademark: the Klenex of tissues, the Q-Tip of cotton swabs, or the Band-Aid of medial bandages. With the newest features available today, they're the best choice for caller ID spoofing.

Signing up for SpoofCard is nice & easy. First, you can try it for free! The trial call is limited to only changing the caller ID (you can't change your voice, nor record the call) and it's limited to 2 minutes. If you like the service, buying it is quick & easy.

You can get 60 minutes for $10, or buy in $20, $40 or $80 increments. There's no discount for buying more time, but if you use the service a lot, you won't have to recharge your account as often. You can, however, save 10% by using a SpoofCard Coupon Code. SpoofCard makes buying easy, accepting payment via any major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) or even PayPal.

If you want a physical card sent to you (to keep in your wallet, for example), you'll have to pay an additional $4.99. It'd be nice if they gave you the ability to print your own card from the “Account Login” section.

Within seconds of paying, I received an email with my PIN and dial-in information:

Dear Eric,

Thank you for purchasing a SpoofCard calling card! Your PIN number is xxxxxxxxx.
You may place a call by dialing 1-866-304-8880 and follow the instructions.
You may also view your call history, listen to recordings, and recharge your PIN balance by visiting www.SpoofCard.com and entering your new PIN number.
We hope you'll enjoy using SpoofCard.
Sincerely,
The SpoofCard Team

I tested out the service by calling my buddy, using Google's phone number to appear on his caller ID, and I tried to change my voice to a woman's. He didn't answer, and I went to his voicemail & left a short message. I really wanted to hear what the voice changing sounded like, so I logged into my account

SpoofCard Account Main

And clicked on the Listen link, where I got an error: Recording is missing from file system!. Even an hour later, the recording wasn't available online; however, I was able to call back and listen to the recording over the phone. Rather than sounding like a female, I sounded like a midget. Don't buy the SpoofCard if your main use is going to make you sound like a woman, if you're a man.

Placing a call online is a nice feature, as it's easier to use than dialing the toll-free number. You enter your phone number (where you're at), your friend's number (or the number you want to call), the number to appear on the caller ID, and then select options for Voice Changer and Record This Call. Immediately, the service will call you at the number you're at, and after you press 1, the call is placed to the recipient, showing the number you chose on the caller ID display.

You have access to your billing information via the website, but only for the current month and the prior three months. So if you need to submit receipts for reimbursement, be sure to print them soon after you purchase minutes (another reason to purchase more minutes at once).

If you're constantly using the service, you can have SpoofCard automatically bill your credit card once your balance reaches a certain limit. This is great if you're a professional and don't want to have to worry about running out of time or recharging your account. This is only an option if you paid via credit card and is not available with PayPal.

Conclusion

SpoofCard, while the brand first thought of, may not have the best features of the caller ID spoofing companies. They do caller ID spoofing very well, and the automated billing and call initiation from the web are great features, but the voice changer is weak, and problems retrieving the recordings from the website frustrating.
